The old fort of James / St Andrew’s Island (re-named to Kunta Kinteh Island) is an Island in the Gambia River. The Island is about 30km upstream on the Gambia river, and is home to the ruins which once belonged to the colonial Britain. This was the last bit of African soil that many slaves saw before being transported in the bowels of transatlantic slave ships to the Americas.
